It’s actually easy being Green

For almost 15 years Organic Surge has been caring for your skin, whilst reducing our carbon footprint, with products that (quite literally) don’t cost the Earth.

Here's how our Clean Beauty ethos takes care of the conscience as well as your complexion.

  1. Keeping it as natural as possible

Our products contain a minimum of 98% naturally derived ingredients and we only use ingredients derived from renewable resources. When we use natural & organic ingredients instead of synthetic ones we enhance the skin's natural function; utilising active ingredients which help optimise our skin's regeneration.

  • 2.    Certified Organic .
Ecocert was the very first certification body to develop standards for "natural and organic cosmetics" so rest assured Organic Surge Products contain:
A minimum of 95% of all plant-based ingredients in the formula and a minimum of 10% of all ingredients by weight must come from organic farming.
A minimum of 50% of all plant-based ingredients in the formula and a minimum of 5% of all ingredients by weight must come from organic farming.
    3.    Which means absolutely none of these.
GMO, parabens, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, silicon, PEG, synthetic perfumes and dyes or animal derived ingredients.
    4.    And also #Glutenfree & 100% Suitable for Vegans.
All of our products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Organic Surge is against animal testing and upholds the European ban. At Organic Surge we are #allergyaware so all of our Organic Surge products are wheat/gluten free and tested for suitability to all skin types even the most sensitive
    5.    Palm Oil?
Our products do not contain palm oil itself but some products contain
ingredients which are derived from palm oil. The sources of these
ingredients vary but we only buy from suppliers who are signed up to the
Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
    6.    Recyclable Packaging & Biodegradability
We only use packaging materials which can be recycled, and we don't use more packaging than is needed. And although it's not the prettiest parcel you'll ever receive we work hard to make sure that all of our outer packaging for your order contains biodegradable or recyclable materials too.
    7.    NEVER Tested on Animals.
We absolutely do not and our manufacturing partners do not. Organic Surge
will always work with ingredients derived from nature wherever possible,
rather than using synthetic ingredients. Each ingredient is sourced with the
utmost care for the environment and respect for the welfare of animals.
    8.    And finally
We're proud that all of our products are made here in Great Britain!
  • Allergy Awareness Week 2019

ORGANIC SURGE − ALLERGY AWARENESS − CLEAN BEAUTY

At Organic Surge, we understand the challenges of sensitive skin. Alan MacKenzie, our founder, set up Organic Surge after suffering from eczema and skin sensitivity, and wanted to create an affordable organic skincare range.  In honour of Allergy Awareness Week 2019, we wanted to tell your more about our fantastic Lavender Meadow Range, which has been clinically tested for eczema prone and sensitive skin.

This multi-award-winning, fragrant range gently improves the skin’s appearance, while providing daily protection, reducing tension and stress, encouraging restful sleep and uplifting moods,  while calming the mind, body and soul. We love this powerful plant for all its unique properties, which is why we use it in our Lavender & Geranium Essential Oil Blend in all of our Gentle Meadow range. Lavender has been used for centuries for medicinal, natural health and beauty purposes. It has a strong aromatic scent and is full of therapeutic properties to help soothe body and mind.

LAVENDER MEADOW Lavender essential oil is distilled from Lavender flowers and is a calming, relaxing oil with a herby floral aroma, which is why it’s often used in aromatherapy to combat stress and calm the senses. The essential oil can be used as antiseptic to support skin care and natural healing and balance skin conditions. Geranium essential oil is distilled from Geranium leaves, releasing a rosy, refreshing and intense oil with a sweet floral aroma. It helps to harmonise the emotions and rebalance combination skin, by balancing the production of sebum, while keeping it supple and helping to soothe and heal irritation.

Every product in our range has been made from the finest skin-loving ingredients. Our Lavender Meadow Shower & Bath Gel, which recently won ‘Editor’s Choice’ in the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2019, will treat your skin with care whilst you enjoy the expert blend of calming lavender with balancing rose geranium essential oils.

Our Lavender Meadow range has been clinically tested and proven kind to skin and also suitable for people who may be prone to eczema. In the shower, apply using hands or a shower sponge, lather well then rinse off and towel dry. In the bath, add a generous amount under running water to create your own relaxing spa bath at home.

For super soft skin and lasting fragrance, finish by using our Lavender Meadow Hand & Body Lotion, which uses a blend of lightweight glycerine, rich shea and coca butters, to soften and moisturise your skin.

We know that when it comes to skincare, it is the delicate and often sensitive skin of our faces that needs particular attention and TLC. The key component to ANY skincare regime is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! And we have the perfect one for you:

    Blissful Daily Moisturiser

Throughout the day your skin is affected by pollutants that simply can't be avoided in today's world, and a good daily moisturiser is your essential base. Help to neutralise environmental irritants, plus keep skin hydrated by using Organic Surge Blissful Daily Moisturiser. Apply liberally to the face each morning, smoothing in with fingertips, avoiding the eye area. A blend of natural hydrators and antioxidants protects skin ensuring a healthy, smooth complexion and is perfect for normal or combination skin.

    Super-Intensive Daily Moisturiser,

Those with mature or dry skin types should opt for the Super-Intensive Daily Moisturiser, with the additional benefits of Aloe Vera to repair, sooth and moisturise skin. Again, apply liberally to the face each morning, and smooth in with fingertips. Specifically designed for dry skin that needs an extra surge of moisture this intensely hydrating cream provides the ultimate boost to restore dryness. Organic Essential Oil of Rose Geranium is key to restoring skin balance and reviving a dull complexion. Eco-friendly jewellery from Susanencapsulates

This week we talk with jewellery maker Susan Webster, whose handmade, up-cycled Encapsulate jewellery is lovingly made from used aluminium coffee capsules and mixed materials contained within gleaming silver plated settings. Susan is based in the Scottish Highland town of Nairn.

    1. What first led you in the direction of making jewellery?

I studied for a degree in Design and became an Art and Design teacher for many years. During that time, I became very adept at utilising pre-used materials in creative work. Although I love drawing, painting and other areas of Art and Design, I developed a strong interest in jewellery making while helping my students design pieces for their SQA units. When I finished teaching, I relished the opportunity to make my own pieces.

    1. Your jewellery is upcycled, can you tell us why this is so important to you?

Another passion of mine is caring for the environment. I am pretty rigorous about reducing waste, re-using things and recycling, so if I can find another use for things before disposing of them, I will. The coffee capsules I had collected had a very attractive variety of colours, so I experimented to develop my own style of working with them.

    1. What are your favourite materials to use?

I enjoy using all sorts of materials, but with this particular product, the base material is aluminium, which is quite soft and malleable, shiny and lightweight. For decorating the capsules, I use an array of pre-used, often broken, bits of jewellery; sometimes my own, some contributed by others, and some I buy in charity shops. Single earrings which have lost their partners make really good feature points. My favourite searches are on the beach where I seek out tiny pieces of sea-glass, shells, corals and pebbles and often the beach-themed pieces include a sprinkle of local sand.

    1. How long does it take to make a piece?

The process of producing each piece involves first of all, drinking the coffee (well, somebody has to do it!), then opening the capsules to clean out the coffee grounds (which I compost), then wash and dry them. I then crush them and fill the backs with clay to give them a little more weight and keep them firm. Once they’re baked, I add a little paint and a few bits and pieces I think will fit and enhance the individual shapes of each one. After a final selection, I stick it all with a non-toxic adhesive. Lastly, I attach the silver bail, brooch pin or bangle. This is all quite time-consuming, so it takes me over 4 hours to make each piece. That’s not counting the sourcing of materials, packaging, photography and marketing.

    1. What inspires your creativity when making a new piece of jewellery?

My inspirations are very varied, but can be summarised as: nature, culture and fashion- I’ve made pieces inspired by landscapes, beaches, seasons flowers, insects, themes like music, art, sailing, tartan etc. I especially enjoy matching up jewellery to particular outfits, as some people commission me to do for special occasions.

    1. What’s your favourite piece of jewellery that you’ve made before and why?

My favourite is difficult to pinpoint, but I made a set for myself for my daughter’s wedding in September, (as well as hair-vines for the bride and bridesmaids, and a kilt pin for the groom) and wearing them brings back happy memories of that lovely day. You can see it on my Facebook page- peachy coloured.

    1. What challenges do you face in your work?

There are quite a few challenges in my work- like living with my ‘studio’ being my dining room table! Keeping up with marketing when I’d really rather be making jewellery, sourcing eco-friendly packaging etc, and finding time to set up an Etsy shop or website, which I haven’t managed to do yet.  It’s also too easy to hide away and make jewellery instead of taking time out to socialise- I should do more of that. My health imposes a few limitations on how much I can do, as I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis with all its complications since I was 29, but  I’m very lucky to be doing something I enjoy-  I am loving being my own boss, sharing my creations with others, receiving positive feedback and making people happy in my own minor way, while minimising my impact on the environment.

Our Top 4 Winter Beauty Routines

From the everyday to Christmas Day, here are our top 4 products that are essential for creating a wonderful winter beauty routine.

    Replenishing Facial Oil

In winter it’s not just the turkey that’s dry, the colder months can severely dehydrate your skin. Using a facial oil a few times a week, along with your regular moisturiser, will help to seal in moisture, protect it from environmental damage, plump the skin and of course assist with those irritating flaky bits of skin which pop up on your face throughout the winter months. Argan Oil naturally nourishes the skin, increasing skin elasticity, while Yarrow Oil naturally soothes, reducing inflammation.

    Top Party Tip
I also apply a drop or two AFTER my I put my make up on, to highlight those cheekbones and add a touch of Christmas sparkle.

    Deep Cleansing Face Mask

Never underestimate the power of a face mask. Quick results, minimum fuss and soft, glowing skin – a real  shortcut to speedy skincare success, as well as being a bit of 'me time'.

To alleviate signs of parched, tight, winter-weary skin, smooth over your face and leave for 10−15 minutes, then rinse off, then gently dry your skin with a warm towel. Use weekly, or whenever your skin needs a quick brightness boost.

    Top Party Tip
For overnight intensive treatment, I like to apply it generously over my face, avoiding the eye area, then I simply rinse it off in the morning.

    Perfecting Face Polish

The combination of fewer daylight hours, central heating and cold dry air makes your skin even more prone to drying out in the winter.  By exfoliating you banish those dead skin cells, making way for new ones, as well as any dirt and oil trapped in your pores. Our Perfecting Face Polish is made from finely ground coconut shells bound in a lotion made with moisturising oils and soothing herbal extracts, creating a gently exfoliating skin treat.

    Top Party Tip

After giving my skin a good buff, not only is my skin cleaner and healthier but it is better prepped to receive my moisturiser.

    Nourishing Rose Day Cream

Skin sensitivity can often be exacerbated by cold, windy weather. To rehydrate chapped cheeks or soothe a red nose, reach for our Nourishing Rose Day Cream, where a little goes a long way with this moisturiser.

The rich hydrating cream helps to soothe, repair and nourish skin with the help of its Damask Rose Oil and Argan Oil. Apply all over and then pat on an extra layer where needed.

Your usual moisturiser may not be enough in this cold snap, so pull out all the stops when it comes to nourishing winter skin with a hard-working hydrator.

    Top Party Tip
Massage in to your face and neck with gentle upward strokes. For extra hydration, mix with a couple of drops of Replenishing Facial Oil for a beautiful glow.oil rose

5 Night time Skin Care Tips for You by Ashley Parker

It’s no secret that night time skin care routines can make or break a person’s skin care routine.  Doing the right things before going to bed can either step up or decrease our skin care game.  Not only can we add new things to our routine, but often it is about refining what we are already doing.  In addition, being aware of those things that can step up our skin care game, and having it fit into our unique schedules.   So, what are night time skin care tips that can help improve our skin care?  That is why we created this list of night time skin care tips.

    1. Wash your face sooner than later. We all have our cut off time at night where we feel like we hit a brick wall of tiredness and the easy things such as washing our face, brushing teeth, etc. becomes more difficult.  Make a mental note to wash your face before the tiredness hits.  Sleep is when our body recovers, removing makeup and the daily buildup on the face will help prolong the repair process at night.
    2. Wash your pillowcase frequently. Why change a pillowcase frequently? Every day we touch different things that have bacteria and germs.  This then gets transferred to our face when we touch it.  In addition, any oils or dirt on the face gets transferred to the pillow when sleeping.  It is most important for people with acne prone skin to always have a fresh pillow to reduce irritation.
    3. Use warm water when washing face. Despite what you may have heard, hot water can remove essential oils from the skin and cause dehydration and irritation to the skin.  Using warm water can reduce the chances of irritation.  Find the medium balance between cold and hot water when washing your face.
    4. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, prevent breakouts, smooths skin texture, and even clear pores. Exfoliation is one of the most important aspects of a skin care routine, fortunately it can be done from home.  It is a vital tool for people with blemishes as it helps kill bacteria and can help prevent breakouts.
Some additional benefits of exfoliation include helping clear clogged pores.  If you suffer from clogged pores, exfoliation helps prevent congested pores.  Most common areas of irritation are the chin, nose and forehead.
    1. Use a soft cloth when cleaning face. Whether you are using a cloth or facial cleanser device, ensure it is soft and non abrasive.  Abrasive facial tools or cloths can leave scratches on the face unseen to the eye.  This can lead to further irritation of the skin.  Know your skin type.  If your skin is sensitive, using the softest cloth may be the best fit for you. Use a serum to help combat damage to skin.

Moisturize. Sometimes people avoid using a moisturizer at night.  Using a moisturizer at night can help keep the skin hydrated and prevent dry skin build up on the face.  At night, the skin is most permeable.  This allows for maximum absorption of active ingredients for the skin.  After showering or washing your face, you want to lock in the moisture.  Use skincare that might include a moisturizer to do this. Don’t forget about your neck when moisturizing!

Breaking bad habits - The Daily Essential Swap for Organic September

    ORGANIC SEPTEMBER
It’s that time of year again!

So whether you are an Organic ‘nut’, only shop partly organic, or are only just converting to organic produce, we want to accompany you on your journey and help you make the switch from regular Highstreet skincare products to Organic and Ethical Produce and we can clearly recommend all of our products which:

    • Contain a minimum of 98% plant-based ingredients and a minimum of 10% of all ingredients, by weight, must come from organic farming.
    • Only use ingredients derived from renewable resources.
    • Never contain GMO, parabens, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, silicon, PEG, synthetic perfumes and dyes or animal derived ingredients.

    Step 1: Save yourself precious time in the morning;

After a sprightly dog walk, I jump in the shower and cleanse my face and neck with a pump of Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser. I use this in the shower to save time, but you of course can use quite simply with a hot cloth over the sink. This is incredibly good at getting rid of any overnight oil build up (even with my oily complexion!).

In the past I have always used foam cleansers, with the logic that it was the lather that would prevent breakouts and oiliness, but these products actually made my blemishes worse as they stripped my skin of its natural oils.

Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser even removes the most stubborn eye makeup! Something I have struggled with in the past, and the panda eyes look being an all too familiar one! I also suffer from sensitive skin so in the past if even a smidge of product has gone near my eyes then it has instantly reacted; all of Organic Surge’s skincare is suitable for the most sensitive skin.

Step 2: A moisturiser which does what it says

After a quick hot lemon drink for cleansing, I use Nourishing Rose Day Cream for my face and neck; it’s true that a little goes a long way! Not only does it smell incredible and has a lovely light feel but the Argan oil nourishes the skin so deeply, your skin feels truly soft. The damask rose oil also calms redness which I am often prone to. Finally,  Palmarosa and geranium oils infuse  the skin with vital moisture for a luminous, supple complexion.

After using an organic moisturiser with super concentrated natural ingredients and no chemical nasties, you’ll see what you have been missing out on.

Step 3: Not all Deodorants are the same

Why should we put up with products that could be harming our skin and even our health?

Deodorant is one of those daily essentials that we don’t even really think about, and it’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the same old products. I myself was guilty of that, until Organic Surge brought out their Super Fresh Deodorant.
    deo

Specifically formulated with a unique complex of naturally derived ingredients to gently target odour creating bacteria and keep you feeling fresh throughout the day, it omits an ingredient so commonly found in the majority of Highstreet deodorants: ALUMINIUM.

Many people are not aware of the difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant. An antiperspirant uses pore-clogging aluminium to block the skin and prevent sweating, a deodorant simply kills the bacteria that cause body odour whilst allowing the skin to breathe.

I have been absolutely amazed at the difference switching to an organic Deodorant has made. As a keen runner, I was pretty sceptical about its effectiveness, but there hasn’t been any odour whatsoever and not a sweat patch in sight! I haven’t really suffered from sensitive skin under my arm pits, but applying deodorant after shaving was always excruciating painful and I just learnt to live with the sting! But after using Super Fresh Deodorant the sting just doesn’t happen anymore. I couldn’t believe it!

    Step 4: A handy companion

Previously, I’ve been guilty of choosing a hand wash based purely on packaging – something that will look great in my bathroom. It’s always been a bonus if it claims to be ‘moisturising’. Yet I've discovered that although many Highstreet brands use a small percentage of moisturising ingredients in their hand washes, they can leave hands dryer than ever, partly due to SLS, which gives the bubbles but is in fact a harsh chemical. SLS strips the natural oils from the skin leaving it dry, out of its natural balance and more susceptible to damage. This time of year is a particularly important time to make the switch to an organic hand and body wash, now that the colder weather is on the horizon. Switching to Organic Surge’s Hand & Body Wash range (available in three fabulous fragrances) which are specially formulated to cleanse even the most sensitive skin leaves me confident that my hands will win the fight against winter this.

You definitely don't need harsh chemicals to keep your skin in check. Let nature take care of it, switch to organic and you won’t look back!

Are you stuck in a bad skin care habit? Use Organic September as an excuse to switch things around with these Organic Surge essentials.

The massaging action will stimulate blood flow in the skin, giving a natural glow to your complexion. hccThe Shea Butter naturally moisturises the skin, while the Orange Peel Oil naturally rejuvenates the skin. Don’t forget that skin regenerates itself every 28 days, so it won’t take long for you to notice an improvement in your skin’s tone and texture.

Just before your wedding focus on getting as much hydration into your skin as possible, which will have a naturally plumping effect on your complexion, as well as giving you the all-important glow. Be sure to try and drink the recommended 2 litres of water a day and for that additional hydration and comfort ; massage our Replenishing Facial Oil into your neck and face.

For a complexion boost, add a pump of Nourishing Rose Day Cream to the Facial Oil to refine your skin texture. If you do this before you apply your make up, being sure to massage gently on to your face, neck and décolletage, your skin will be a perfectly primed base for your foundation. The secret to long-wearing make-up is all in the prep, so be sure to cleanse and moisturise thoroughly.

Taking some you time and looking after your whole body:

Every bride’s dream is to have an all-over flawless complexion. Whether you prefer to bath or shower, Rose Whisper Hand & Body Wash & matching Hand & body Lotion safeguard your skin's natural moisture while cleansing and moisturising. Enriched with Damask Rose and Geranium essential oils & Organic Aloe Vera to naturally soothe and calm skin, this elegant, luxurious natural fragrance will last the duration of your big day.

Apply the hand & body wash to damp skin in the shower, with hands or a shower sponge. Lather well and breathe in the organic essential oil fragrance blend. Or for a softly foaming bath, pour a little into the bath directly under running water.

Gorgeous Rose Whisper natural hand and body lotion will complete the ritual: it’s super-hydrating and quickly absorbed and will leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturised.

Finally, while you may feel tempted to stay up late finishing last-minute tasks, set yourself a bedtime curfew. Lack of sleep not only depletes your skin, it will make you feel sluggish and more likely to rely on sugary snacks and caffeine, all of which can contribute to dull skin and breakouts. Rest, relax and enjoy your big day.

    Getting the best from moisturising

With summer just around the corner, it’s never been more important to review your skincare routine. Moisturising sun kissed skin should be an integral part of your daily routine, yet it doesn’t have to be a chore. By making a few adjustments to your application techniques, you should notice a real difference in the results.

Now you can enjoy many of our skin care products for less in our Spring Skin Event.

    Keep the hydration

To lock in the all-important hydration, apply your moisturiser while your skin is still slightly damp, as opposed to dry. The perfect time to do this is directly after cleansing with the Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser or after applying the Refreshing Face Wash. Catch the excess moisture before it evaporates!WASH

Help boost skin's natural rejuvenation cycle

For moisturiser to sink in you need to eradicate the dead skins which soon pile up. Buff away the dead skin cells by using Perfecting Face Polish 2-3 times a week. This will stimulate, smooth and rehydrate all skin types.

    The oily skin myth

It’s a common misconception that moisturising oily skin will only exacerbate it, yet it’s just as – if not more – important  to moisturise oily skin as it can actually help to balance your natural skin oils. With its quickly-absorbed, lightweight texture Blissful Daily Moisturiser was designed specifically for combination/oily skin types as it blends natural hydrators, antioxidants and essential oils to balance oily and dry skin zones.

    Find your perfect match

Never underestimate the power of using the correct moisturiser for your skin type. We have 5 formulations to choose from:glow

For Normal/Combination Skin try Blissful Daily Moisturiser for a healthy, smooth complexion.

For All Skin Types, our best selling Overnight Sensation Night Cream contains lavender essential oil to both calm the skin and relax your mind.

For normal to dry or mature skin our luxurious, organic rose day cream is the way to go, with a rich, soothing, nourishing day time formula that helps to counteract fine lines, leaving even the most sensitive of skin hydrated

Immerse your skin with intense hydration using our Radiance Recovery natural Night Cream. For normal to dry or mature skin.

Finally, how much should you use?

This is a common question for the Organic Surge team.  We recommend an almond-sized amount of moisturiser to get the best results.

5 Tips to help you reduce your sugar intake this Easter

It’s a no-brainer that cutting down on sugar will give you more energy, less ‘afternoon slumps’, improve your skin glow, as well as seriously cut down your risk of health problems such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease, to name but a few. It can also disrupt your hormones which can affect your skin.

With Easter just around the corner you may feel as if you’ll need to brace yourself for the mountain of sugar you will no doubt consume, however, there is a solution − and not a lettuce leaf in sight! Follow these 5 simple swaps to help you cut down on the sweet stuff:

    1. Go Nuts. Not only are nuts a delicious and healthy snack, they also make great goodie bags if you fill them with a mix of pecans, walnuts, cashews and pistachios and tie them with ribbon. They make a great alternative to sweet, sugary Easter Eggs and are packed full of protein and flavour.

    1. Start your day as you mean to go on. Most breakfast cereals contains mountains of added sugar, even the so-called ‘healthy’ cereals. Why not swap your sugary cereal for proteins, such as poached or boiled eggs, or adding cheese and yogurt to your breakfast, which will keep you fuller for longer.

    1. It’s all about balance. Cutting out sugar completely is unrealistic for most people, and, to be frank, dull. Don’t deprive yourself of the good stuff, swap milk or white chocolate for dark chocolate. Chocolate with a high cocoa percentage is the better option, containing anti-oxidants, but maybe don’t eat the whole egg in one go!

    1. Water water everywhere! To keep hydrated, choose good old water instead of fizzy or sugar-sweetened drinks. Flavoured waters and fruit smoothies may seem like a healthy option but can be packed with sugar and certainly won’t fill you up. Keep hydrated throughout the day with water or try having a fruit tea, or adding fruit to flavour water.

    1. Spudulike. Swap your usual white potatoes for the equally, if not more delicious sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are higher in Vitamin A than white potatoes, which helps with skin cell turnover. Plus, if you’re an impatient cook like me, then you’ll be pleased to learn that they take a lot less time to bake than regular potatoes.
