Our Top 4 Winter Beauty Routines

From the everyday to Christmas Day, here are our top 4 products that are essential for creating a wonderful winter beauty routine.

Replenishing Facial Oil

In winter it’s not just the turkey that’s dry, the colder months can severely dehydrate your skin. Using a facial oil a few times a week, along with your regular moisturiser, will help to seal in moisture, protect it from environmental damage, plump the skin and of course assist with those irritating flaky bits of skin which pop up on your face throughout the winter months. Argan Oil naturally nourishes the skin, increasing skin elasticity, while Yarrow Oil naturally soothes, reducing inflammation.

Top Party Tip
I also apply a drop or two AFTER my I put my make up on, to highlight those cheekbones and add a touch of Christmas sparkle.

Deep Cleansing Face Mask

Never underestimate the power of a face mask. Quick results, minimum fuss and soft, glowing skin – a real  shortcut to speedy skincare success, as well as being a bit of 'me time'.

To alleviate signs of parched, tight, winter-weary skin, smooth over your face and leave for 10−15 minutes, then rinse off, then gently dry your skin with a warm towel. Use weekly, or whenever your skin needs a quick brightness boost.

Top Party Tip
For overnight intensive treatment, I like to apply it generously over my face, avoiding the eye area, then I simply rinse it off in the morning.

Perfecting Face Polish

The combination of fewer daylight hours, central heating and cold dry air makes your skin even more prone to drying out in the winter.  By exfoliating you banish those dead skin cells, making way for new ones, as well as any dirt and oil trapped in your pores. Our Perfecting Face Polish is made from finely ground coconut shells bound in a lotion made with moisturising oils and soothing herbal extracts, creating a gently exfoliating skin treat.

Top Party Tip

After giving my skin a good buff, not only is my skin cleaner and healthier but it is better prepped to receive my moisturiser.

Nourishing Rose Day Cream

Skin sensitivity can often be exacerbated by cold, windy weather. To rehydrate chapped cheeks or soothe a red nose, reach for our Nourishing Rose Day Cream, where a little goes a long way with this moisturiser.

The rich hydrating cream helps to soothe, repair and nourish skin with the help of its Damask Rose Oil and Argan Oil. Apply all over and then pat on an extra layer where needed.

Your usual moisturiser may not be enough in this cold snap, so pull out all the stops when it comes to nourishing winter skin with a hard-working hydrator.

Top Party Tip
Massage in to your face and neck with gentle upward strokes. For extra hydration, mix with a couple of drops of Replenishing Facial Oil for a beautiful glow.oil rose

5 Night time Skin Care Tips for You by Ashley Parker

It’s no secret that night time skin care routines can make or break a person’s skin care routine.  Doing the right things before going to bed can either step up or decrease our skin care game.  Not only can we add new things to our routine, but often it is about refining what we are already doing.  In addition, being aware of those things that can step up our skin care game, and having it fit into our unique schedules.   So, what are night time skin care tips that can help improve our skin care?  That is why we created this list of night time skin care tips.

  1. Wash your face sooner than later. We all have our cut off time at night where we feel like we hit a brick wall of tiredness and the easy things such as washing our face, brushing teeth, etc. becomes more difficult.  Make a mental note to wash your face before the tiredness hits.  Sleep is when our body recovers, removing makeup and the daily buildup on the face will help prolong the repair process at night.
  2. Wash your pillowcase frequently. Why change a pillowcase frequently? Every day we touch different things that have bacteria and germs.  This then gets transferred to our face when we touch it.  In addition, any oils or dirt on the face gets transferred to the pillow when sleeping.  It is most important for people with acne prone skin to always have a fresh pillow to reduce irritation.
  3. Use warm water when washing face. Despite what you may have heard, hot water can remove essential oils from the skin and cause dehydration and irritation to the skin.  Using warm water can reduce the chances of irritation.  Find the medium balance between cold and hot water when washing your face.
  4. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, prevent breakouts, smooths skin texture, and even clear pores. Exfoliation is one of the most important aspects of a skin care routine, fortunately it can be done from home.  It is a vital tool for people with blemishes as it helps kill bacteria and can help prevent breakouts.
Some additional benefits of exfoliation include helping clear clogged pores.  If you suffer from clogged pores, exfoliation helps prevent congested pores.  Most common areas of irritation are the chin, nose and forehead.
  1. Use a soft cloth when cleaning face. Whether you are using a cloth or facial cleanser device, ensure it is soft and non abrasive.  Abrasive facial tools or cloths can leave scratches on the face unseen to the eye.  This can lead to further irritation of the skin.  Know your skin type.  If your skin is sensitive, using the softest cloth may be the best fit for you. Use a serum to help combat damage to skin.

Moisturize. Sometimes people avoid using a moisturizer at night.  Using a moisturizer at night can help keep the skin hydrated and prevent dry skin build up on the face.  At night, the skin is most permeable.  This allows for maximum absorption of active ingredients for the skin.  After showering or washing your face, you want to lock in the moisture.  Use skincare that might include a moisturizer to do this. Don’t forget about your neck when moisturizing!

Breaking bad habits - The Daily Essential Swap for Organic September

ORGANIC SEPTEMBER
It’s that time of year again!

So whether you are an Organic ‘nut’, only shop partly organic, or are only just converting to organic produce, we want to accompany you on your journey and help you make the switch from regular Highstreet skincare products to Organic and Ethical Produce and we can clearly recommend all of our products which:

  • Contain a minimum of 98% plant-based ingredients and a minimum of 10% of all ingredients, by weight, must come from organic farming.
  • Only use ingredients derived from renewable resources.
  • Never contain GMO, parabens, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, silicon, PEG, synthetic perfumes and dyes or animal derived ingredients.

Step 1: Save yourself precious time in the morning;

After a sprightly dog walk, I jump in the shower and cleanse my face and neck with a pump of Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser. I use this in the shower to save time, but you of course can use quite simply with a hot cloth over the sink. This is incredibly good at getting rid of any overnight oil build up (even with my oily complexion!).

In the past I have always used foam cleansers, with the logic that it was the lather that would prevent breakouts and oiliness, but these products actually made my blemishes worse as they stripped my skin of its natural oils.

Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser even removes the most stubborn eye makeup! Something I have struggled with in the past, and the panda eyes look being an all too familiar one! I also suffer from sensitive skin so in the past if even a smidge of product has gone near my eyes then it has instantly reacted; all of Organic Surge’s skincare is suitable for the most sensitive skin.

Step 2: A moisturiser which does what it says

After a quick hot lemon drink for cleansing, I use Nourishing Rose Day Cream for my face and neck; it’s true that a little goes a long way! Not only does it smell incredible and has a lovely light feel but the Argan oil nourishes the skin so deeply, your skin feels truly soft. The damask rose oil also calms redness which I am often prone to. Finally,  Palmarosa and geranium oils infuse  the skin with vital moisture for a luminous, supple complexion.

After using an organic moisturiser with super concentrated natural ingredients and no chemical nasties, you’ll see what you have been missing out on.

Step 3: Not all Deodorants are the same

Why should we put up with products that could be harming our skin and even our health?

Deodorant is one of those daily essentials that we don’t even really think about, and it’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the same old products. I myself was guilty of that, until Organic Surge brought out their Super Fresh Deodorant.
deo

Specifically formulated with a unique complex of naturally derived ingredients to gently target odour creating bacteria and keep you feeling fresh throughout the day, it omits an ingredient so commonly found in the majority of Highstreet deodorants: ALUMINIUM.

Many people are not aware of the difference between an antiperspirant and a deodorant. An antiperspirant uses pore-clogging aluminium to block the skin and prevent sweating, a deodorant simply kills the bacteria that cause body odour whilst allowing the skin to breathe.

I have been absolutely amazed at the difference switching to an organic Deodorant has made. As a keen runner, I was pretty sceptical about its effectiveness, but there hasn’t been any odour whatsoever and not a sweat patch in sight! I haven’t really suffered from sensitive skin under my arm pits, but applying deodorant after shaving was always excruciating painful and I just learnt to live with the sting! But after using Super Fresh Deodorant the sting just doesn’t happen anymore. I couldn’t believe it!

Step 4: A handy companion

Previously, I’ve been guilty of choosing a hand wash based purely on packaging – something that will look great in my bathroom. It’s always been a bonus if it claims to be ‘moisturising’. Yet I've discovered that although many Highstreet brands use a small percentage of moisturising ingredients in their hand washes, they can leave hands dryer than ever, partly due to SLS, which gives the bubbles but is in fact a harsh chemical. SLS strips the natural oils from the skin leaving it dry, out of its natural balance and more susceptible to damage. This time of year is a particularly important time to make the switch to an organic hand and body wash, now that the colder weather is on the horizon. Switching to Organic Surge’s Hand & Body Wash range (available in three fabulous fragrances) which are specially formulated to cleanse even the most sensitive skin leaves me confident that my hands will win the fight against winter this.

You definitely don't need harsh chemicals to keep your skin in check. Let nature take care of it, switch to organic and you won’t look back!

Are you stuck in a bad skin care habit? Use Organic September as an excuse to switch things around with these Organic Surge essentials.

SPARKLE LIKE MARKLE! Wedding Skin Prep - The FinishingTouches

It’s never too early to begin prepping your complexion for your BIG DAY and that complete wedding day radiance you deserve!

Taking care of your skin in the lead up to your big day:

Establishing a regular skincare routine will help your skin find its natural balance, and skin loves consistency, so stick with your core set of products. Cleanse twice a day with the Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser to gently remove daily dirt and impurities. If you’re short of time with all the wedding prep, take it into your morning shower with you. The massaging action will stimulate blood flow in the skin, giving a natural glow to your complexion. hccThe Shea Butter naturally moisturises the skin, while the Orange Peel Oil naturally rejuvenates the skin. Don’t forget that skin regenerates itself every 28 days, so it won’t take long for you to notice an improvement in your skin’s tone and texture.

Just before your wedding focus on getting as much hydration into your skin as possible, which will have a naturally plumping effect on your complexion, as well as giving you the all-important glow. Be sure to try and drink the recommended 2 litres of water a day and for that additional hydration and comfort ; massage our Replenishing Facial Oil into your neck and face.

For a complexion boost, add a pump of Nourishing Rose Day Cream to the Facial Oil to refine your skin texture. If you do this before you apply your make up, being sure to massage gently on to your face, neck and décolletage, your skin will be a perfectly primed base for your foundation. The secret to long-wearing make-up is all in the prep, so be sure to cleanse and moisturise thoroughly.

Taking some you time and looking after your whole body:

Every bride’s dream is to have an all-over flawless complexion. Whether you prefer to bath or shower, Rose Whisper Hand & Body Wash & matching Hand & body Lotion safeguard your skin's natural moisture while cleansing and moisturising. Enriched with Damask Rose and Geranium essential oils & Organic Aloe Vera to naturally soothe and calm skin, this elegant, luxurious natural fragrance will last the duration of your big day.

Apply the hand & body wash to damp skin in the shower, with hands or a shower sponge. Lather well and breathe in the organic essential oil fragrance blend. Or for a softly foaming bath, pour a little into the bath directly under running water.

Gorgeous Rose Whisper natural hand and body lotion will complete the ritual: it’s super-hydrating and quickly absorbed and will leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturised.

Finally, while you may feel tempted to stay up late finishing last-minute tasks, set yourself a bedtime curfew. Lack of sleep not only depletes your skin, it will make you feel sluggish and more likely to rely on sugary snacks and caffeine, all of which can contribute to dull skin and breakouts. Rest, relax and enjoy your big day.

Getting the best out of your Bedtime Routine

We shouldn’t need World Sleep Day to remind us that we all deserve a good night’s rest, after all it’s so important  for health and wellbeing, but it’s easier said than done.  Nothing affects how you look and feel as much as sleep, or lack of it. So, we’ve created a sleep meditation guide to help you to wind down and prepare for your great night’s sleep, so you can wake up feeling energised and ready to go.
  • Most importantly, stop using all devices one hour prior to sleep.
Put all devices away in another room rather than keep them in the bedroom to discourage you from checking them during the night.
Then, after you’ve finished your bedtime beauty routine, using Organic Surge’s restful essential oils found in products such as Lavender Meadow Hand and Body Lotion and Overnight Sensation Night Cream, which will help you to get your beauty sleep while caring for your skin, it’s time to prepare for some restful slumber.

Lie in your soft warm bed and just take a few, long deep breaths.
On the next inhale just hold the breath in for a moment and then let it go. Feel the wave of deep relaxation with each exhale.
  • Now is the chance to review your day. Take a few moments to do this.
  • During this moment, take a long deep inhale, then, gradually let the whole thing go.
  • Get a sense that with each exhale you let go of your waking self and this day and move into the freedom to sleep. No one to see, nothing to do, nothing you need to control but just let go of the day.
  • Start to count to four on the inhale, hold the breath in for two, and exhale for six.
  • Inhale 4 3 2 1.
    Exhale 6 5 4 3 2 1.
    (Repeat)
  • Now stay focused on your breathing.
  • Take one more deep inhale, and as you exhale sink down into your bed and invite sleep to come.

Simply Pure Beauty

Victoria Jensen, founder of Simply Pure Beauty, Penryn, is a qualified beauty therapist, masseuse and reflexologist of 25 years. Her treatments relax and rejuvenate to enhance mind, body and soul, so naturally we wanted to get know Simply Pure Beauty a little better….
victoria

Simply Pure Beauty is a beautiful name for your salon, what does it represent?
I’ve been through a lot of changes in my life and I wanted the business to reflect where I am at this stage; able to celebrate balance and well – being. The salon is quite minimalist and it’s all white, which in part was actually inspired by Organic Surge’s products as I genuinely love everything about them.  I love the fact that they’re simple, organic, and adaptable to many routines.

What motivated you to embark on a career as a masseuse, reflexologist and beauty therapist?
I’m very passionate about mental health, and health in general and because I’ve been a beauty therapist for 25 years and worked in so many different places, I feel very strongly about working in a mindful and relaxed manner rather than trying to rush treatments.
Although I really enjoy doing a variety of beauty treatments − including things like waxing and tinting − I’m really passionate about giving someone a really good treatment, maintaining what you’ve been given naturally and looking after yourself in as holistic a way as possible.

For someone new to massage, what is the best way for them to begin?
It depends on the client, if someone was a bit embarrassed or shy then I would encourage them to go for something like a back massage to start with. I always explain what I’m going to do and how I’m going to do it so there’s no surprises. I use a warm bed, so that people can feel like they’re nurtured and the ‘towel technique’ so clients feel less exposed. I also give them the opportunity to ask me any questions, and they can ask me any questions throughout too.

How often would you advise people to have a massage or a facial?
I get asked this a lot; I always advise the client that it depends on their time and their budget. Most of my clients come once a month. I personally have a massage once I month.  I think if you leave it any longer than that then it’s like starting from scratch again, so maintenance is important.

How does massage therapy work and what happens to the muscles before and after?
In basic terms, when we use our bodies we get a build-up of toxins, especially if you do a lot of physical exercise, and eventually this causes the muscles to become quite tight, which is why you can ache in places such as the lumber spine.  When you massage the muscles, this increases the blood and lymph flow, which gets rid of the waste quicker, so not only are you increasing your blood flow and circulation, but you’re then going to be increasing your lymphatic system. I always advise that you drink lots of water because it will help to flush out the toxins, even if you’re having something like a facial or reflexology, it’s important to drink lots of water afterwards.

Finally a HUGE THANK YOU for offering an Organic Surge facial as part of the Facebook Competition:
“That’s my pleasure - I love my facials, they’re such a lovely treatment so I’m delighted to offer this as a prize. The lucky winner will start all snuggled up in a lovely warm bed, in a white duvet, with lots of white towels. Then I use mittens which are warmed up begin with the Organic Surge Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser Enriched with Natural Shea Butter which I remove with the hot mitts, and then sometimes I use an essential oil, depending on their skin type. Then I use the Organic Surge Perfecting Face Polish, which I later remove with the warm mitts, then I will do another cleanse, then we go into the massage. I normally decant a small amount of almond oil which I’ll warm up in my hands and apply to the Décolletage, and around the trapezius. I use the Organic Surge Replenishing Facial Oil Enriched with Argan Oil and warm it in my hands so that they can get that beautiful smell, and then put that over their skin, and then I will massage around their Décolletage, followed by a massage of the whole area. When that’s done I apply the Organic Surge Deep Cleansing Face Mask, and they then get some cotton discs and have a warm compress over their eyes. I then do a head massage, or sometimes a hand massage if they prefer. Once that’s done I cleanse off with a warm mitt, then I will apply the Organic Surge Hydrating Eye Cream Enriched with Jojoba Oil, and then Nourishing Rose Day Cream Enriched with Damask Rose Oil. Luckily the Organic Surge range suits everyone’s skin type.  Then I will put a warm towel around their necks for a nice finishing touch, and then either they won’t want to get up, or they may even be snoring!”

Refresh Your Skin Care Routine for Autumn

October is here and that means that nights are drawing in and the mornings are toe-stubbingly dark.

Flip flops are begrudgingly put away in the cupboard as the winter boots are unearthed, so it’s time for a skin care swap too. The treasured summer staples that have been keeping your skin balanced and glowing throughout the summer season now need to be updated with products which are more tailored to the fresher, chillier weather.

Here are five products to add to your routine, ready for autumn.

  1. Moisturise Moisturise Moisturise!

Organic Surge Super-Intensive Daily Moisturiser

The drier air we experience throughout October-February means that skin can quickly become dry so it is vital to switch to a more nourishing (not necessarily thicker) moisturiser. Most complexions will love the ultimate boost that our Super-Intensive Daily Moisturiser gives. Organic rose geranium essential oil is key to restoring skin balance and reviving a dull complexion. With the additional benefits of Aloe Vera to repair, sooth and moisturise, skin will feel and look super soft.

  1. Try a new product

Organic Surge Deep Cleansing Face Mask

There is little harm in experimenting once in a while with new products, and you can’t go far wrong with natural and organic products, so why not try a Facial Mask? Facial masks treat your particular skin type or condition, and if you’re prone to dry skin as the temperature drops, then a facial mask should easily hydrate your skin. If your skin is red or inflamed, then the mask should calm and soothe. If your skin is oily, the facial mask can help draw out impurities from the skin. Our Deep Cleansing Face Mask is made from Purifying essential oils, blended with soothing chamomile and ginkgo biloba to brighten and rebalance, leaving skin clean, clear and revitalised.

  1. Don’t Forget These Key Areas

Organic Surge Lavender Meadow Hand and Body Lotion
It’s easy to focus solely on the health of your face during the colder months, but there are other areas that require your attention in the colder climate, mainly your hands, which will be exposed to the elements just as much as your face. Lavender Meadow Hand and Body Lotion has an intensive moisturising action and is quickly-absorbed to provide comfort and hydration. Enriched with organic lavender and geranium essential oils, and moisturising vitamin E, shea butter and cocoa butter, this dreamy lotion works to prevent moisture loss leaving skin comforted and softened.

  1. Get your glow back!

Organic Surge Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser Enriched with Natural Shea Butter

Why should your skin only get a summer glow? Get your glow back and reveal smoother, brighter skin with our multi-award winning Natural Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser, with a new and improved formula making it suitable for vegans. This Hot Cloth Cleanser will gently remove dirt and impurities, harnessing the highest quality essential oils and moisturisers to care and clean to fully rejuvenate skin. The massaging action will stimulate blood flow in the skin, giving a natural glow to the complexion, enhanced by the gentle exfoliation from use of a cloth in the cleansing regime.

  1. Finally, Call in the big guns!

Organic Surge Replenishing Facial Oil Enriched with Argan Oil

If you feel that your moisturiser just doesn’t cut the mustard when it comes to all-winter-protection, then give it a helping hand with a facial oil. Perfect on its own, or dilute it down by mixing it in with your every day moisturiser, this luxurious yet lightweight oil instantly hydrates parched skin, without leaving a heavy pellicule. Using an uplifting blend of essential oils including soothing argan oil and yarrow oil, it will leave your skin looking and feeling comfortable, soft and fresh.

For the love of Roses

Guest blogger Stephanie from Expert Home Tips is here to tell us about her love-affair with roses.

rose

There’s just something about the rose. Elegant, feminine and with a whole list of benefits for mind, body and soul, this really is nature at its best!

All roses have properties that benefit the body, but there’s none quite as special as the Damask Rose. It’s the oldest species of rose known to date, with its use dating as far back as Grecian and Roman times, when it was used to perfume baths.

It’s the Damask Rose that can be found in the Organic Surge Radiance Recovery Night Cream. Its addition, in the form of essential oils, has many beneficial properties for skin that make this a stand-out product.

Besides smelling great, here’s what the addition of Damask Rose Oil can do for your beauty regime:

  1.  Helps acne-prone skin

When pores become blocked with excess sebum, bacteria builds up, and this combination causes acne. For people that suffer from spots regularly, keeping bacteria at bay is essential.

The damask rose has antibacterial properties that make it an ideal treatment for acne-prone skin. It’s capable of completely destroying Propionibacterium acnes - the bacteria that leads to acne.

Organic Surge Radiance Recovery Night Cream could just be what your troublesome skin’s been in need of.

  1. Promotes younger-looking skin

There’s no need to invest in Botox if you choose a skin product containing Damask Rose. High in antioxidants, rose protects skin from sun damage that causes ageing, including wrinkles and sagging.

Additionally, antioxidants work to soothe and calm stressed skin, helping it to regain that youthful firmness we all chase after.

  1. Calms redness & soothes sensitive skin

For those with sensitive skin, redness can be a real problem. Many people presume oil would aggravate such skin - Rose oil, however, does the opposite. As it’s 100% natural and has anti-inflammatory properties, it actually works to soothe and calm skin.

This reduces redness and signs of irritation to leave the skin looking and feeling balanced.

  1. Intensely moisturises dry skin

Choosing a product that is moisturising enough for dry and damaged skin, but light enough to prevent breakouts can be difficult. This is where the Damask rose in the Organic Surge Radiance Recovery Night Cream comes in.

Rose oil makes skin more permeable, meaning the product is really able to sink deep into the skin and work its magic. As it’s also 100% natural and extremely light, it won’t clog the pores – Rose is an extremely versatile ingredient suitable for most skin types.

  1. Tones and tightens skin

One of the reason rose water features so much is toner, is due to its astringent qualities. It has a tightening effect on capillaries, which helps to reduce the appearance of pores as well as brightening the complexion.

The addition of Damask rose to a night cream is extremely clever, as it will lead to a supple and taught complexion in the morning. What better way to start the day!

If you love the scent of Rose as much as I do, (a lot and a lot) there’s another flower I’d also recommend exploring - the Rose Geranium.

Despite its name, the Rose Geranium isn’t actually a rose at all, however you’d be forgiven for thinking it was. One sniff is enough to fool you – it has the same, feminine floral scent, with some citrus added in for good measure.

If you fancy seeing just what this wonderful flower can do, you can try it in the Organic Surge Daily Care Refreshing Face Wash.

Incorporate Rose Geranium into your beauty regime today to benefit from:

  1. Mood-boosting effects

The Organic Surge Daily Care Refreshing Face Was has a truly stunning scent. In fact, the aroma of Rose Geranium alone can produce a mood-boosting effect, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.

These are the kind of feelings you want products to promote during your beauty regime. Whether you have two minute or two hours, take a few minutes to be at one with yourself and feel utter relaxation with Rose Geranium.

  1. Stabilises both oily & dry skin types

The reason we experience dry or oily skin is due to and imbalance in the secretion of sebum – the oil that lubricates the skin’s surface.

One of Rose Geraniums most valued properties is perhaps its power to rebalance this mechanism when the skin is struggling to do so itself. Balanced sebum secretion means clear pores, and clear skin as a result.

  1. Clears and soothes acne-prone skin

Similarly to the Damask Rose, Rose Geranium also has anti-bacterial properties. This makes it an ideal ingredient in a face wash, ensuring skin is completely cleansed, and all traces of bad bacteria removed.

Washing the skin with a product like Organic Surge Daily Care Refreshing Face Wash gives acne-prone skin the best chance possible to keep pores, and skin, clear.

Ten New Year's Resolutions for Healthy Skin in 2015

One partied out Pooch

If, like me, you’ve felt like you’ve been dining at a medieval feast for the last week (turkey legs for lunch and dinner? Why not! Bailey’s for breakfast? Bring it on!) then you know what I mean when I say that my stomach, liver and head needs a bit of TLC after the crazy Christmas period. It’s so important to take good care of yourself after endless days of indulgence (which, by the way, you did deserve, so no need to feel guilty there, we all need a break after all), but don’t forget your skin needs just as much love as any other part of your body.

These are my top 10 tips to having a full skin detox so that you can begin 2015 with a healthy mind, body and soul. Not only that, but your skin will be glowing for your first day back at work, even though you may still feel like it’s the middle of the night, at least you will look the part.

  1. Increase your fruit and vegetable intake

You are what you eat, it’s no myth. And yes, with food a complete abundance this time of year it’s even harder to say no to a Quality Street, but just make sure that you balance it out with the healthy stuff too. After all, Fruit and vegetables provide your body with vital vitamins and minerals.Yes, have a roast potato or two, but accompany it with a big pile of peas and roasted root veg too. Or have some Stilton, but pile on the grapes with the crackers too. Simple!
You’ll also have so much more energy if you load up on fruits and vegetables, which makes the thought of going back to work a little less daunting!

    1. Treat yourself to a facial

Hopefully you’ve been given some vouchers or a little pocket money for Christmas, and what better way to spend it then on a little pampering for yourself. It’s the perfect way to revive your skin after all that partying, and the essential oils will rejuvenate your skin, senses and make you feel relaxed.

    1. Flush out your system with the right hot drinks

Rather than relying on a strong cuppa or thick black coffee to wake you up in the morning, try an alternative hot drink instead, like a green tea, or even better, a hot water and lemon. It’ll still warm you through on these cold frosty mornings, and it will rouse you gently for the day, rather than giving you a roller-coaster ride of an energy burst that caffeine will.

4.Get back to basics and moisturise

A good moisturiser is nothing but vital for your skin, especially at this time of year, what with all the cold weather, parties and vast quantities of all the 'wrong' food and drink! By sticking to your skincare routine it really will do wonders for your skin, and keeping it hydrated will help keep it smooth and protected.

It’s a good idea to take some time to discover the perfect moisturiser for you, so that you can match your skin type to your moisturiser. Find out yours here.

    1. Water water everywhere
There is nothing more natural and better for you then a big glass of water, but just make sure that you keep hydrated on the inside as well as the outside. Sip water throughout the day (aim for about 8 glasses a day). If it helps, set an alarm on your every half an hour so to remind you to keep sipping the H2o.water alert!

    2. Use an eye cream

The perfect way to soothe tired, partied out eyes is with a hydrating eye cream. It gently rejuvenates and nourishes the delicate skin around the eye area, and is excellent as a moisturising treat for delicate and sensitive skin.

Packed with skin loving nutrients, the enriched yet lightweight blend of organic shea and cocoa butters, along with nourishing organic jojoba oil and natural antioxidant alfalfa extract all help to improve skin tone.

Apply after cleansing with your ring finger (it's the weakest), working from your lower outer eye clockwise for your right eye and anti-clockwise for your left, to cause minimal drag.

    1. Opt for natural

Organic Surge cares about your skin and helps you to look and feel your natural best everyday. Organic Surge feeds your skin what it craves; naturally-derived, skin-loving ingredients and pure essential oils. It contains no obscure or harsh chemicals for your precious skin to absorb. And the natural fragrances smell delicious! Read about Organic Surge's natural ingredients here.

    2. Try a facial oil – no matter what your skin type

Leave behind any doubts about using an oil – take the plunge! Ideal for even oily skin, facial oils help to balance your skin, and Extra Care’s new replenishing facial oil is a luxurious yet lightweight oil, which instantly hydrates parched skin. Using an uplifting blend of essential oils including soothing argan oil and yarrow oil, it leaves the skin looking and feeling comfortable, soft and fresh.

    3. Exchange your bar of soap for a liquid cleanser

Cleansing your skin with a bar of soap – no matter how expensive it is, just simply isn’t good for skin and will strip your skin of moisture. Unfortunately, because of the way it is made it inevitably contains alkalis, usually in the form of sodium, which is very disruptive to the upper layer of the skin. Your skin cells need to stay moist in order to be healthy; acne conditions and sensitive or dry skin suffer from lack of water, so make sure that you use the correct cleanser and lotion.

    10. Stick to your night time routine

Research shows that the skin repairs itself most effectively at night, so don’t neglect your skin at it’s most important recovery time. If you feel too tired to wash off your make-up before bedtime, try Kiss and Make Up Wipes for a quick fix. Or, like me, cheat! Night time routines don’t have to be done just before you go to bed. I take my make up off when I get home from work or after I have put my baby to bed. Washing off the day’s daily grime will clean and fully rejuvenate your skin. Most importantly, a quality night moisturiser will not suffocate your skin.

Not enough hours in the day

Now the kids have gone back to school, mornings just seem to be a mad rush of half eaten bowls of cornflakes, 17 trips up and down the stairs as you suddenly remember you need to pack your phone/lipstick/squeaky toy (you need to keep the baby amused in the car somehow), and general chaos.

We barely have time to take care of ourselves while balancing our family and our job, the house work, and trying to maintain a social life, too, so an easy skin care routine can be hard to stick to, especially if it’s a toss up between spending a sacred 5 minutes before the school bus arrives on brewing a strong Earl Grey or exfoliating your T-zone. Yet, with a few helpful short cuts in tow, it is possible to include an all-important skincare regime into your early morning rush hour. Here are my top tips:

      • Switch your mud-like coffee for a hot water and lemon. It’s a great natural detoxifier, and doesn’t taste too bad. Just think of it as a Virgin G&T…
      • When I’m in a hurry, I feel much better about the way I look if I can at least wash my face and put moisturiser on. A shower is even better, but that isn’t always possible first thing in the morning! Showering at night after the kids are in bed is a great tip too.
      • Apply Eye Gel – it cools and refreshes the delicate skin around the eyes. It’s lightweight, so quickly-absorbed, and contains green tea, menthol and eyebright extracts to reduce puffiness and rejuvenate your skin, so at least you LOOK like you’ve had 11 hours sleep.
      • Buy a wooden body brush, and use it on your whole body (not too hard, you’re not grooming a horse) to get your skin glowing. Then use your favourite body lotion.
      • Use a peppermint lip balm to keep the lips soft and subtle, while also giving you a wake up tingle on the mouth.
      • To reduce hair frizziness (especially in the summer months), try a 2-minute moisture hair mask. The Organic Surge 2-Minute Moisture Hair Mask is super-charged with pure coconut oil and plant extracts, to penetrate the hair shaft, targeting damaged areas. After washing, just scoop a generous amount through your hair, combing it through. Allow just two minutes to work, then rinse away and dry as usual.
      • For an instant glam look, apply a bold lip colour. Opt for a long-lasting formula if possible.
      • One quick sweep of waterproof mascara makes eyes look awake (even if you don’t feel it) yet natural.
      • Spritz on your favourite scent for a simple way to feel refreshed.
    • Finally, I find that hitting a Pilates class two times a week  is not only great for the complexion but for the neck, back, and knees  as well.

I know that taking out time for a routine is a big achievement, and investing time in skin care is just a matter of discipline, after all you’re not Super Woman, but hopefully these few handy hints will help you survive the chaos.
