Our Show Garden - ‘A Garden of Hope' represents the healing of all the women and girls helped by the charity across its three clinics in Africa and has been kindly sponsored by Muirfield Contracts Ltd, Burness Paull LLP and First State Investments. Here is the garden so far...

An estimated 2 million women in Africa suffer from obstetric fistula caused by prolonged, obstructed childbirth and lack of access to maternity care. Left incontinent, the effect on women is devastating, condemning them to a life of solitude and despair.
In 2008, Ann Gloag, co-founder of the Stagecoach transport company, set up the Freedom From Fistula Foundation to help these women. Today, the charity provides free surgeries at its fistula clinics in Sierra Leone, Malawi and Kenya and is working to prevent obstetric fistulas occurring in the first place by funding women to have c-sections, training midwives and providing free maternity care (www.freedomfromfistula.com).

The Charity has decided to create a Show Garden 'A Garden of Hope – a pathway to healing' at Gardening Scotland 2014 to help raise awareness about the work of the Freedom From Fistula Foundation. Ann Gloag has chosen award-winning Edinburgh-based garden designer Carolyn Grohmann to design and create the Garden.
Carolyn, who will be working alongside Water Gems and Binny Plants on the project says, “This is an exciting opportunity to create a beautiful show garden for such an important cause. The footprint of the garden will be circular and will represent the pathway to healing for women in Africa suffering from obstetric fistula.”
